So you have a coin you can't identify?
The Central Florida Coin Club does not evaluate, authenticate, appraise,
buy or sell coins. If you write to us to ask about a coin, we can not help
you. We can't. Period. Sorry.
However, here are some suggestions...
- Buy a copy of the Red Book, or "A Guide Book of US Coins" by RS
Yeoman. It cost about $12, and has excellent material on United States coins.
- Take it to a dealer.
There are coin dealers listed in your phone book. They will be happy to
help you identify your coins, and may offer to buy it if you are looking to
sell. If you choose to do this, research your coin a bit using the book in the
previous step so that there is less of a chance that a dishonest dealer will rip
you off.
- Visit a coin show (Details
About Our Coin Show). Most major cities have coin shows. They are
advertised in local papers. At a coin show, there will be many dealers who can
help you.
- Subscribe to coin
publications, such as Numismatic News or Coin World. Not only do these
publications talk about coins, but there are advertisers willing to buy
and sell coins listed in the back. Most of these publications have
internet sites, and links to them appear on our links page.
- Join a coin club. There are coin clubs all over the country, and the ANA
maintains a list of them at their website.
These clubs are full of active, knowledgeable collectors who can help you,
or at least point you in the right direction.
- Visit Our Coin
Glossary Page This will help you identify the type of coin you have, if it
is American.
